TESTIMONIES
Barry is a man that it has been my utmost privilege to know.
In 1971 my son, who was 15 years old at the time was sexually assaulted whilst training as a Cadet at the Naval Base HMAS Leeuwin, located in Freemantle-Western Australia. It wasn’t until he was 51 years old that he was able to tell anyone what had happened to him.
Eventually he became a regular patient in Ward 17 at Daws Rd Repatriation Hospital in South Australia, a ward dedicated to helping ex-service personnel both men and women suffering abuse and many other forms of PSTD.
Fortunately, Barry was an advocate for many of these patients and has dedicated his life to helping them. My son lived a 2 hour drive from Adelaide, which Barry made countless journeys to pick him up, drive him back to The Repat in Adelaide, then drive him the 2 hours home again. All of this at Barry’s own expense.
It took many years of determined dedication from Barry to locate somebody with the appropriate Law Degree to represent these men and women in claiming compensation. Barry NEVER gave up. He contacted Business Leaders, Lawyers and Politicians for help, even travelling to other states in this quest, once again at his own expense.Yours sincerely,
Dorothy
Barry and John have been there as an amazing support for me over the past 10 years, all while serving in the ADF and after discharge. From visiting during hospital stays, and regular check up phone calls. They have been the greatest support while trying to find a new direction in life after discharging from the ADF and to opening my own business. They are family to me and I will forever be grateful for all that they have done over the past 10 years. – Grace
When it comes to Veteran Welfare the best person to help is Barry Heffernan. My story of needing help goes back several years, the guidance and support from Barry has been outstanding. The point of difference between other organisations and Barry’s
is simply how Barry understands the issues.
I found I could speak with him veteran to veteran and he understood theissues and didn’t ignore my problems, he helped me resolve them.
